Microcredential 2024

Anthropocene Summer School: The Contemporary World in Transdisciplinary Perspective

Micro-credential educational programme of Charles University, 8 ECTS

Final program published!

Since 2024, the summer school has been accredited by Charles University as a micro-credential educational program.

What does this mean for you? Microcertificate status gives our course not only recognition, but also a higher level of credibility and value for each participant. Microcertificate training programmes are a form of lifelong learning that differs from existing qualifications frameworks and has pan-European support, which is guaranteed by the European Commission. Every successful graduate receives an internationally recognised diploma issued by Charles University. The course is worth 8 ECTS credits, which students can include in their curricula.

At the time of the Anthropocene, when we are no longer satisfied with the traditional division of the sciences into natural and social sciences, nor with the distinction between academic and non-academic forms of knowledge, scholars are beginning to study the world in a new way. Anthropocene phenomena are complex, dynamically changing and often non-intuitively interrelated – if we want to understand the present, it is crucial to be able to look at the facts around us from different perspectives.

During the summer school, you will learn how to effectively study and interpret the contemporary world in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary way: you will learn how to go beyond the boundaries of your own expertise, communicate across disciplines and better respond to the complicated – ecological, social and identitarian – challenges of today.

When: May 2024 – October 2024, final evaluation January 2025

What awaits you: Intensive weekly programme in Prague from 09.–13.09. 2024 and online distance learning. The evaluation of the final theses will take place in January 2025.

Seminars, lectures, field trips, practical workshops and a number of specific examples and practical examples of interdisciplinary cooperation, all under the guidance of top experts. The summer school will be held in Czech and English.
